In 2005, Chesapeake Birth Companions became membership-based and experienced and qualified area doulas were invited to join our membership to offer birth and postpartum doula services. All member doulas are non-medical professionals who provide invaluable assistance to you and your partner during the labor and delivery of your baby. Your doula will provide physical, emotional, and informational support to you and your partner during each stage of labor and birth, help and advice on comfort measures such as breathing/relaxation, light massage, and positioning; assistance in gathering information about the course of your labor and your options; continuous emotional reassurance and comfort; non-pharmacological pain relief measures(at doula's discretion); and, assistance to partners who want to play an active support role so you have a safe and satisfying childbirth your way.
Chesapeake Birth Companions are experienced, certified doulas assuring you that your doula has achieved a level of expertise, knowledge, and hands-on experience attending hospital, birth center, and home births with a multitude of healthcare providers.
